A couple of weeks before the January transfer window, Calcio Mercato claimed that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were keeping a close eye on Slavia Praha’s teenage sensation Abdallah Sima.
The 19-year-old, dubbed as the ‘new Thierry Henry’ by folks in Prague, is having a spectacular season in the Czech top-flight. He has scored 19 goals and has provided six assists so far, and it is no surprise that top clubs are looking at him.
The report claimed that scouts from Juventus and Arsenal are keeping tabs on Sima, while Dusan Vrto boldly claimed recently that Barcelona had joined the race to sign the Senegal attacker this summer. (Read here)
It’s never easy to judge the true quality of a youngster when all of his experience has come in the Czech league. Thankfully for Arteta, he will get to watch the talented attacker live at the Emirates in just over two weeks time.
Arsenal host Slavia Praha in exactly 15 days
The Czech champions face the Gunners in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Europa League on the second Thursday of next month.
Sima has played a part in every single Europa League game for Slavia this term and he is almost guaranteed to start again at the Emirates.
Arteta, if the interest is genuine, will be keeping a close eye on Sima. If the Senegal international can deliver on the big stage against one of the favourites to win the competition, he will likely convince the Arsenal boss to make a move for him this summer.
