A little over two months ago, Arsenal were linked with a striker who was dubbed as the new Thierry Henry.
It was claimed then that the Gunners were keeping a close eye on Slavia Praha striker Abdallah Sima. (Read full story)
The Senegalese sensation has had a spectacular campaign in the Czech top-flight so far. He has scored 19 goals and has picked up five assists in just 24 starts in all competitions.
He even scored the goal to knock Leicester City out of the Europa League a couple of weeks ago, and it won’t be a surprise to see him get himself a big move away from Slavia at the end of this season.
Former Dundee United defender Dusan Vrto has revealed that the striker is wanted by Arsenal and Barcelona, and has labelled him as a ‘superstar’.
He said on The Talking Fitbaw podcast: “Slavia’s best player is Sima. 10 months ago he was playing in the third league in the Czech Republic for FC Mas Taborsko. They played some friendly games against Slavia Prague and he played very well.
“Slavia said, ok we’ll take you from the third league to the B team of Slavia Prague. After a few games, they took him to the first-team squad and now he’s a superstar. Teams like Arsenal are interested in him, Barcelona also are interested. He’s a very, very talented player.”
Arsenal Insider’s view:
Arsenal will likely be on the lookout for a new striker this summer.
Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are both expected to move on at the end of this season. That would leave Arsenal with just Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli up front.
That will not be enough to last the entire season. Arsenal will have to bring another number nine in, and Sima could well be an option.
The versatile teenager’s numbers are absolutely incredible. It’s no surprise that he is being linked with a few of the biggest clubs in the world, but he will have keep firing like this until the end of the season to convince the top sides that he is ready for a big jump this summer.
