Eintracht Frankfurt 0-3 Arsenal review plus Granit Xhaka's game by numbers

Not many people expected us to score three past Frankfurt let alone keep a clean sheet while doing so. However, Arsenal were simply magnificent on the night as Unai Emery’s side started off the campaign in style.

A new star was born in Bukayo Saka who scored one and assisted the other two to pick up the man of the match award. The teenager was a constant threat and the performance is sure to give him a ton of confidence.

The horror show against Watford would have been in Emery’s mind but he can be thoroughly satisfied with his side’s response. Arsenal withered off Frankfurt’s storm in parts of the game to later successfully rip them apart on the counter-attack.

Saka will deservedly take most of the plaudits from the game but Granit Xhaka quietly showed why he is so valuable. The Swiss international had an outstanding game in central midfield and his numbers speak for itself.

Xhaka had 68 touches in the game and provided two key passes. He was accurate with four out of his attempted five long balls and created one big chance in the process. Defensively, Xhaka had one of his best games in recent times.

The 26-year-old won 100% of his ground duels while also making five clearances and four tackles. He wasn’t dribbled past once in the entire game and was positionally astute both with and without possession. (SofaScore)

With Aston Villa coming up on Sunday, Xhaka and the rest will have to recover quickly and if the performance is anywhere near as good as it was on Thursday, we can be confident of getting back to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend.
