Arsenal are edging closer to the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP.

The Gunners have been working very hard to secure a deal for the Sweden international. He emerged as the top target, but Arsenal have not been happy with the way Sporting have been negotiating.

However, a deal appears to be close now as footage has emerged of Gyokeres’ furniture being moved out of his home in Portugal.

All signs point towards the striker moving to Arsenal in the coming days, but what can Gooners expect from him once he arrives? Let me tell you!

What I learned after watching all 97 goals Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres scored for Sporting CP

Viktor Gyokeres’ numbers for Sporting CP are nothing short of extraordinary.

The 27-year-old has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Portuguese champions, which is an incredible return for any striker.

Yes, the Liga Portugal is not on the level of the Premier League, but after watching every goal he scored for Sporting, I can’t help but be excited.

Gyokeres is capable of scoring almost every type of goal. He has a lethal right foot, and his shots are really powerful. But he is not too shy to use his weaker left leg either.

13 of the Swede’s 97 goals came from his left foot, which is a small percentage, but he has shown that he can find the net without being too reliant on his right.

Gyokeres is excellent inside the box. He often manages to lose his marker and makes himself available for cut-backs from the wide areas. That is great news for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

The Sporting star is excellent when he’s running off the defender’s shoulder too. The timing of his runs is really good, and even though he isn’t the quickest, he is powerful enough to force his way past his opponents.

Furthermore, despite being a fairly big guy, Gyokeres is very tidy with his feet and manages to get shots away in tight spaces. That is a positive sign ahead of his potential move to Arsenal, as he will find himself in crowded situations more often than not.

Another excellent trait Gyokeres has developed is direct free-kicks. Declan Rice is the main man at Arsenal after his stunners against Real Madrid, but the Swede scored three excellent goals from the dead ball for Sporting, and I’m sure he will put his hand up when the Gunners win a free-kick at the edge of the box.

Finally, what impressed me the most about Gyokeres is his composure. Yes, he misses chances like everyone else, but he is very reliable in front of goal more often than not. That is exactly what Arsenal need next season.

Gyokeres will not have as much space at Arsenal, and the defenders he will come up against will be a lot quicker. But, I think he will be a handful for any centre-back and will cause them all sorts of problems if he becomes a Gunner.

Viktor Gyokeres will still want to improve one area of his game

Gyokeres is a very complete striker, but he can become even better.

Out of his 97 goals for Sporting, just five came off his head. That’s a five per cent return, which I’m sure he will want to improve when he moves to Arsenal.

Nicolas Jover is arguably the best in the business with set-pieces, and he will definitely have a plan to use Gyokeres’ physicality to the Gunners’ advantage.

I get that some Arsenal fans are a bit sceptical about Gyokeres, and I don’t blame them. But the more I see his goals, the more I’m convinced that he will do well at Arsenal if this move gets over the line.

The one thing Arsenal supporters need to understand, however, is that he will not score 97 goals over the next two seasons in England. However, 50 goals over the next two campaigns is very achievable.
