Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Rafael Leao from AC Milan this summer.
The Gunners are on the market for a new wide player – just like they were in last year’s transfer window. Edu Gaspar signed Raheem Sterling on loan then, but the expectation is that a much better winger will be brought in.
The likes of Nico Williams and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens are on Arsenal’s radar, but Leao is on Andrea Berta’s wish list too, ahead of the summer window.
Former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has already delivered his verdict on the Portugal international attacker.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang thinks Arsenal target Rafael Leao is ‘incredible’
Aubameyang is the last prolific goalscorer to play for Arsenal.
The Gabon international caused all sorts of problems to opposition defenders and played a key part in helping the Gunners win the FA Cup in Mikel Arteta’s debut season.
Problems with the Arsenal manager led to his exit, but Aubameyang knows a fantastic attacker when he sees one, having played with and against several great players.
The former Gunners star, in an interview in October 2022, hailed Leao, who has now been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Aubameyang said, as quoted by HITC: “He is an incredible player, truly impressive.
“He is very fast, powerful, he can make a difference at any moment. Nothing else to say except that he is incredible.”
Rafael Leao vs Nico Williams vs Jamie Gittens
Arsenal have some great options on the market as they look to strengthen their wing this summer.
Leao, as Aubameyang has already said, is a great option, but Nico Williams would be brilliant too – he showed his class in the Euros last year.
Gittens is another exciting talent, but who has fared the best in 2024/25? Here are their stats…
| Games | Goals | Assists | |
| Rafael Leao | 49 | 12 | 13 |
| Nico Williams | 44 | 11 | 7 |
| Jamie Bynoe-Gittens | 47 | 12 | 5 |
All three players have produced a similar goal return for their respective clubs this season, but Leao leads the way in assists.
However, both Williams and Gittens are younger than the AC Milan man and arguably have a higher ceiling than he does.
Arsenal can’t really go wrong with any of the above names. It remains to be seen who Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta will pick once the window opens.
