Add as preferred source on Google

Arsenal’s away kits over the years have often divided opinion, but they range from all-time classics to forgotten disasters.

Arsenal’s traditional away colours are predominantly yellow and blue, but several kits have strayed away from these, which have sometimes caused frustration amongst fans, but also provided different creative options.

The Arsenal 2023-24 away kit received a mixed reception as the luminous green and black patterns were not too warmly greeted at first, but the incredible away form Mikel Arteta’s side displayed in the shirt means that it will likely become a cult classic in the future.

Some Arsenal away kits invoke memories of iconic players or victories, with some worn during a few of the club’s greatest league triumphs, and we have now listed our top 10.

The first season of Adidas sponsorship after several years of Puma was a strong one when it came to kits. Arsenal finished eighth, but Arteta won the FA Cup in his first season in charge.

The away kit was a huge hit, as it was a remake of the iconic ‘bruised banana’ strip, but with a modern-day twist.

Despite Arsenal not creating many fond memories in this kit, it was an objectively excellent strip, in the traditional yellow and blue.

Arsenal occasionally made gold away kits, and the 2001-02 season saw the club produce one of their greatest-ever moments in the kit.

The Gunners won the Premier League away at Manchester United with a 1-0 victory, as Sylvain Wiltord scored in the second half, and they were crowned champions at Old Trafford wearing gold.

Arsenal’s Invincibles season was memorable for all the right reasons, and Arsene Wenger’s side won the title undefeated in some excellent kits.

The away kit was a smart blue and yellow, with a traditional collar and the O2 sponsor in the middle making it one of Nike’s best Arsenal shirts.

7. Arsenal 1995-96 away kit

Although Nike experimented with a blue away kit, the 1995-96 one was an excellent shirt and one which is still sought after by Arsenal fans and collectors today.

With two shades of blue and a lightning bolt pattern down the middle, this was a truly iconic kit, and the legendary Dennis Bergkamp springs to mind almost instantly when seeing it.

May 1989 saw George Graham’s Arsenal create one of the most iconic moments in English football history, with Michael Thomas scoring a last-minute goal at Liverpool to win the First Division title at Anfield.

Arsenal wore their traditional blue and yellow kit, with the old-style Adidas badge, as well as a cannon logo, making this shirt the face of the club’s most dramatic trophy win.

Wenger’s first full season in charge saw Arsenal win the Premier League and FA Cup double, and their away shirt was a thing of beauty.

A sleek blue collar was surrounded by a dark shade of yellow, with a dark blue middle section on top of the JVC sponsor.

The shirt is synonymous with Nicolas Anelka, and was worn during some incredible moments throughout the season.

10 years after the Invincibles triumphed, Nike entered in their final year of manufacturing Arsenal shirts, but they released one of their best.

They designed a remake of the 2003-04 shirt, but this was somehow an upgrade. Featuring a blue collar with a yellow stripe, and a bright shade of yellow and blue, this matched simplicity with style, and Arsenal revealed the kit with a spectacular launch.

A giant banner featuring young British players Kieran Gibbs, Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Carl Jenkinson in the shirt was placed on the Emirates Stadium, with all committing their futures to the club with long-term contracts.

Arsenal’s second away kit in the Premier League era was a fine one, as Adidas produced one with an excellent combination of yellow and blue with a flat red collar.

The shirt was different in design to a lot of ones that followed, but this was truly one of the best, and Arsenal recently re-released it with great success.

Adidas again strayed away from traditional colours, but they produced one of their best kits ever as Arteta’s side nearly won the Premier League.

A sleek black kit with gold lettering and a cannon replacing the badge proved extremely popular, as it sold out quickly and demand outstripped supply for a lot of the campaign.

Arsenal thrived on the pitch in the kit, with a 3-0 win at Fulham a memorable one in this away kit, which will go down as a modern great.

The Adidas ‘bruised banana’ kit was Arsenal’s first away shirt of the Premier League era, but it simply has to rank top in this list.

When it was released, it reportedly divided opinion given the garish black and yellow patterns, but over the years it has become a true classic.

Remakes and re-releases proved immensely popular, with it now hard to find an original make of it, and the bruised banana pattern is also seen in other Arsenal merchandise.

A shirt heavily associated with the great David ‘Rocky’ Rocastle, this kit captured the attention of Arsenal fans old and young, and it will be tough for any new ones to surpass it.
