Arsenal have had several iconic strikers over the years.
The Gunners are among the most successful sides in English football, and fans of the club have seen a number of incredible players don the famous red and white.
Thierry Henry, in many people’s eyes, is the greatest Arsenal player of all time, but there have been others who have been extraordinary as well.
One of them is actually the reason why Henry even became an Arsenal fan.
Ian Wright is the reason why Thierry Henry fell in love with Arsenal
Ian Wright joined Arsenal from Crystal Palace in 1991 for a then club record fee of £2.5 million.
The legendary Englishman, who is still associated with the club, spent seven years as a Gunner and became the club’s record goalscorer at the time.
Wright played 288 games for Arsenal and scored 185 goals. He was tremendous on his day and won several games on his own.
Henry came along a year after Wright left, and he broke his record. He scored 228 goals in his two spells in North London.
What’s interesting is that many years prior, Henry publicly claimed: “I fell in love with Arsenal because of Ian Wright.”
Before the Real Madrid game, the Frenchman took his kids to the Emirates to show them his statue. On his way there, he noticed his above comment on a wall.
Henry read it aloud and said: “Yeah! Wrighty, thank you!”

What Ian Wright said about Thierry Henry breaking his Arsenal record
Wright joined Arsenal fairly late in his career – he was nearly 28 when he signed for the club.
But, that didn’t stop the Englishman from becoming the club’s greatest goalscorer during his time at Highbury. He was phenomenal for the Gunners.
But, like most records, Wright saw his broke by Henry.
Speaking about that later in 2020, the Arsenal legend said: “When I got to Arsenal, I wasn’t even expecting to get that far. I just wanted to get the shirt and prove I was good enough to play at a club at that level.
“To end up being the top scorer in their history was amazing. I did not even realise the enormity of what I had done until Thierry broke the record.
“You look at a player of Thierry’s calibre, and that is what it took. I can live with that.”
