French outlet RMC Sport revealed earlier today that former Lille sporting director Luis Campos is in discussions with Arsenal about taking over a key role at the club in the coming weeks.
That came in as a shock as we already have Edu Gaspar as our technical director. However, it now looks like the Gunners are looking at Campos as someone who can come in and assist the Brazilian in transfers. (Football London)
Campos has made a name for himself as one of the best scouts in Europe. The list of players that he has unearthed includes Anthony Martial, Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, Nicolas Pepe and this little kid from Moncao you might have heard of named Kylian Mbappe.
Arsenal fans would undoubtedly love to see Campos pulling the transfer strings at the Emirates. We know it will not happen this summer, but just for fun, we’ve taken a look at three exciting signings he can help Edu complete for the Gunners if he does come in.
Three players Luis Campos can help Arsenal sign this summer
Signed by Campos in 2019, Yazici has had a tremendous season at Lille. He only started 10 games in Ligue 1 for Les Dogues last term, but he managed to score seven goals and provide four assists, which is a stunning return.
He scored two hat-tricks in the Europa League as well last season and the fact that he can play as a number 10 and up front makes him a very good option for the Gunners this summer.
The Daily Mail reported in November that Arsenal are interested in signing Yazici. It is by no means an easy deal to complete, but if we can get Campos in, he’ll surely know how to get this done.
Another Campos signing at Lille, Sanches has turned his career around. After a disastrous spell at Bayern Munich, the Portuguese international has found a place where he is trusted, and he has been really good.
Sanches will enter the final two years of his contract this summer and there’s a good chance Lille will let him leave if a good offer comes in.
With Dani Ceballos gone and with Granit Xhaka also set to leave, Arsenal could do with a brilliant young midfielder, and signing Sanches, with some help from Campos, would be a very good move.
Not many people know this, but Saint-Maximin is another player unearthed by Campos. He brought the Frenchman to Monaco from Saint-Etienne in 2015, and his value has since increased tenfold.
Now tearing it up in the Premier League at Newcastle United, Saint-Maximin is a target for many big clubs. Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for the tricky winger last year, with Le 10 Sport even claiming that the Gunners were in contact with the Frenchman’s agents over a summer move.
With Willian set to leave the Emirates in the coming weeks, Arsenal might look for a new winger. Saint-maximin would certainly be an excellent addition, and with Campos potentially at the helm, a deal now would be more achievable than it was last year.
