Raheem Sterling’s move to Arsenal has been a disaster.
The Gunners were in need of a new wide player in last summer’s transfer window, and they were linked with several big names.
Nico Williams was a target last year too, while the likes of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Kingsley Coman were all said to be on Edu Gaspar’s radar as well.
But, in the end, Arsenal signed Sterling on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea, and that transfer has just not worked out for either party.
What Raheem Sterling said immediately after signing for Arsenal
On paper, considering the circumstances, a deal for Raheem Sterling didn’t seem like the worst idea for Arsenal.
The Englishman was only brought in as a backup, and his experience of scoring goals and winning big trophies was viewed as a positive.
To add to that, Sterling had previously worked with Mikel Arteta, and the pair enjoyed a lot of success during their time at Manchester City.
That made many people, including Alan Shearer, feel it would be a good move for Sterling, and the attacker probably thought he would explode at Arsenal too.
That could be why he made a bold statement in his announcement video, but we’re sure he will not want to watch it back now.
Sterling said: “People like to talk, don’t they? Well, so do I! And I’ll say this – you’re about to see the best of me!”
Raheem Sterling will be embarrassed by his own comments
Arsenal fans didn’t expect too much from Sterling when he arrived, but the Englishman has still managed to disappoint everyone.
The Gunners have had so many injuries this season, and they were in desperate need of a backup player to step up and deliver.
Sadly, Sterling couldn’t do that, and his numbers show just how poor he has been.
| Games | Goals | Assists | |
| Raheem Sterling | 27 | 1 | 5 |
That is a really poor return from Sterling, especially when you consider the fact that he told the world they would be seeing the best of him at Arsenal.
This move has been a disaster, and Sterling will be sent back to Chelsea once his loan deal expires at the end of this season.
It will be interesting to see if any other club in the Premier League will take a chance on him this summer.
