Arsenal star Granit Xhaka and AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho grew really fond of each other over the course of the summer. Many believed that they were set to join forces, but that move collapsed.
The Giallorossi were very keen to sign the Swiss international, it’s no secret at this point. Even their sporting director, Tiago Pinto, publicly acknowledged their interest, but he claimed Arsenal refused to sell him. (Read here)
After all the drama, Xhaka ended up staying and signed a new contract. He will remain an integral member of our squad this season and beyond, but that hasn’t stopped Mourinho from staying in touch with his summer target.
Mourinho sends Instagram message to Granit Xhaka
After his sending off at Manchester City, Xhaka left England to join the Switzerland national team ahead of their games against Greece, European champions Italy and Daniel Ballard’s Northern Ireland.
The Arsenal man was an unused substitute in Switzerland’s 2-1 win over the Greeks earlier this week. However, he sadly tested positive for the infamous virus soon after, and he is set to miss his country’s next two games as a result.
Swiss FA’s head of communications, Adrian Arnold, revealed soon after that Xhaka had refused to take the vaccine. (Blick) That, of course, is his personal choice and neither Arsenal nor Switzerland can force him to change his mind.
However, Roma boss Mourinho has offered some advice to Xhaka. In the comments section of the Swiss international’s latest Instagram post, the former Spurs manager wrote: “Get the jab Granit and be safe.”
Xhaka responded by saying: “Thank you, mister.”
The Swiss international will get a long rest now. He is guaranteed to miss the games in this international break, while his red card against City means he’ll be banned for Arsenal’s next three games. Hopefully, he’ll use this time to get back to his very best.
