Gabriel Martinelli gave Arsenal the lead on Wednesday night, and Bukayo Saka sealed the win very late in the game.

Jamie Carragher has changed his mind about Arsenal star David Raya

Arsenal signed David Raya in the summer of 2023, initially on loan.

The Spaniard displaced Aaron Ramsdale at the Emirates, and that led to a great deal of criticism directed his way. Even Arteta was ridiculed for his decision at the time.

In 2023, Jamie Carragher had a go at Raya, claiming that he wasn’t really an upgrade on Ramsdale and was making too many mistakes.

He said, as per the Daily Mail: “It wasn’t a mistake as such to replace Aaron Ramsdale, as Ramsdale wasn’t going to win you the league. But the guy [Raya] he’s chosen right now to come in is absolutely all over the place.

“I think bringing in Declan Rice has improved them, but they’ve not moved the dial with the goalkeeper.”

Now, after watching his performance against Olympiacos in the Champions League, Carragher seems to have changed his mind about the Arsenal number one.

He said on CBS Sports: “I think he’s a brilliant goalkeeper. This is one of the best pieces of business Arsenal have done. A real upgrade that from Ramsdale.

“David Raya, for me, it’s between him and Alisson in the Premier League who’s the best goalkeeper, and he’s certainly one of the best goalkeepers in the world. That’s why they keep so many clean sheets.”

Carragher’s opinions on several Arsenal players seem to be changing.

The Liverpool legend has often had a go at Gunners stars over the years, and many of his past comments look really silly now.

Recently, Carragher admitted that he was wrong about Gabriel Magalhaes.

He said: “What I would say about Gabriel now, after watching him for the last two years, he’s becoming a real leader for that club.

“I always thought Saliba was a different level to Gabriel. I think they’re on the same level. I think he’s fantastic at what he does at both ends of the pitch.”
