Alan Shearer was blown away by what one Arsenal player did against Atletico Madrid.

It was a magnificent night for Arsenal, who rocked Atletico Madrid on matchday three of the Champions League season.

Mikel Arteta was respectful of Diego Simeone before the match, but absolutely humiliated the Atletico boss over 90 minutes.

Arsenal fans were impressed with Viktor Gyokeres, who scored a brace on the night, but it was Declan Rice who once again made the headlines.

Alan Shearer says Declan Rice should earn a bonus for his set-piece deliveries 

There are few players as important to Arsenal as Rice, who earned high praise from Patrick Vieira for his start to the season.

Against Atletico, the midfielder wasn’t applauded for his control in midfield, but for his ability to cause chaos from dead-ball situations.

Rice earned an assist in the game, delivering the ball onto Gabriel Magalhaes’ head, something he does so often for Arsenal.

Speaking on Amazon Prime Video’s commentary of the match [21/10/25 21:39], Alan Shearer and co-commentator Jon Champion discussed Rice’s deliveries.

“I wonder if he’s on a bonus,” Champion asked as Rice stood over the ball to take a free-kick.

Shearer responded, “If he’s not, he should be!”

Rice didn’t expect to be a set-piece taker at Arsenal, but now, there’s no one better at the task than the England international in Arteta’s squad.

The 2023 signing added to his goal contribution tally once again from a set-piece, as Arsenal’s success rate extended.

Rice and Gabriel Magalhaes have struck up quite a partnership 

When looking at the Arsenal squad, it’s easy to see which players will cause the most chaos in a partnership.

Despite having Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka, Gyokeres and Martin Odegaard in their ranks, one of Arsenal’s most lethal duos is actually Rice and Gabriel.

Gabriel is unstoppable in set-piece situations, as he showed against Atletico, as did Rice.

Over the years, the duo have combined for four goals, striking up a partnership that every side in Europe is fearing at present.

It was another game that presented goal contributions for Gabriel and Rice, who gave Atletico no chance to keep Arsenal at bay.
