Arsenal take on Wigan Athletic next in the FA Cup, and Marli Salmon could get an opportunity to play.

The Gunners are still alive in all four competitions this season, and the dream of winning the quadruple could yet come true.

Wigan are 22nd in League One, so Arsenal will go into the game as overwhelming favourites. Mikel Arteta is expected to make plenty of changes to his side as well.

Some of Arsenal’s academy stars will be hoping for a chance, and it looks like Salmon will be one of those who will get the call-up.

Marli Salmon could play for Arsenal vs Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup

Marli Salmon is one of the best defenders of his age in the world.

The 16-year-old, who can play as a centre-back as well as at right-back, is an elite talent and is destined to become a superstar in the coming years.

Salmon has already made his senior Arsenal debut and even featured in their FA Cup third round clash against Portsmouth.

He is likely to be in the squad again on Sunday when Wigan come to town, and the Arsenal U21s may have hinted that.

On Friday, the academy side faced Newcastle in Premier League 2, and Salmon started at the back. He was absolutely outstanding in the first half.

However, he was withdrawn at half-time for Jaden Dixon, which hints that he is being protected ahead of the senior call-up on Sunday.

It will be interesting to see if Arteta will be brave enough to start Salmon against Wigan.

Marli Salmon has already made FA Cup history at Arsenal

Salmon has only made two appearances for the Arsenal first-team so far, but he has already entered the history books.

The teenager was brought on for the final 14 minutes of the game against Portsmouth in the last round of the FA Cup.

At 16 years, four months and 13 days, Salmon became the youngest Arsenal player in history to make an appearance in the competition.

He broke Gedion Zelalem’s record, who was over seven months older when he made his debut in the competition under Arsene Wenger.

We’re sure Salmon will break many more records in the coming years.
