What Arsenal and Man United did for the first time in 2024/25
The first half was a dreary contest between two of the most successful sides in English football history.
Despite the boring start, both sides managed make their stature known by setting a record this term however, it was for unwanted reasons.
For the first time in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, there were only five shots registered in the first half, the fewest of any match so far this season.
It’s important to mention that one of Arsenal’s chances on goal before the interval should have broken the deadlock, as Thomas Partey missed from close range.
The two giants of English football have set the level for others to avoid in what was an incredibly lacklustre opening half.
Mikel Arteta’s half-time team talk worked
It was a snoozefest first half which must have prompted Mikel Arteta to wake his players up at half time.
Whatever the Arsenal manager said in the dressing room worked, as the hosts came alive after the break while United remained sleeping.
| First half | Second half |
| 3 shots | 11 shots |
| 4 corners | 9 corners |
| 253 passes | 211 passes |
As seen above, Arsenal’s outlet in the final third rocketed in the second half, firing more shots on goal and winning more corners.
Interestingly, the number of passes decreased after the interval, which might have been something raised by Arteta as the Gunners consistently overplayed the ball in the first 45 minutes.
Most importantly, Arsenal collected another three points in the Premier League to reduce the gap between themselves and the summit.
