Arsenal’s draw with Liverpool in the Premier League has left Mikel Arteta unhappy with PGMOL once again.

After suffering their third red card of the season against Bournemouth, more refereeing controversy was evident in Arsenal’s ninth game of the campaign. 

There were a lot of talking points from the Gunners’ draw against Liverpool, as the hosts failed to keep hold of their lead twice at the Emirates.

Arsenal took control of the game through Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino however, the visitors had an answer for both of the North Londoners’ goals.

Mikel Arteta comments on late drama in Arsenal vs Liverpool

It might not have been the prettiest performance from Arsenal but, Arteta’s side nearly snatched three points in injury time. 

In a chaotic passage of play, Gabriel Jesus thought he’d won the game in the dying embers however, it was later realised that Anthony Taylor had already blown the whistle. 

Taylor seemingly blew the whistle for Jakub Kiwior’s challenge on Dominik Szoboszlai, something that Arteta found difficult to comprehend when asked about the late drama by the media.

“I prefer not to comment,” Arteta said in his post-match press conference, taking inspiration from the infamous Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho iconically said the line, “I prefer not to speak,” in reaction to Chelsea’s double sending off back in 2014, with the Arsenal boss feeling a similar way 10 years later.

After expressing his emotions, the former Chelsea manager admitted he feared he would be in ‘big trouble’ if he commented any further, with Premier League officials leaving the Portuguese coach speechless on the day.

Arteta will feel equally as puzzled by what just happened at the Emirates, as it’s debatable whether the challenge was a foul, with Mike Dean calling Taylor’s decision ‘soft’.

What is next for Arsenal?

Aside from more PGMOL controversy, Arteta has a lot to assess in the wake of his side’s third draw of the season.

The result puts Arsenal five points behind Manchester City and four points behind Liverpool, a distance that will not be desired as the top two are showing early strength.

Losing to Bournemouth and failing to get the win over Liverpool caps off a disappointing week of action for the North Londoners, who need to put together a winning streak to remain involved in the title race.
