Mikel Arteta was not a happy man despite Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Wolves.
The Gunners were nowhere near their usual level and were arguably lucky to come out of the game with all three points.
Despite the dominance in possession, Arsenal failed to have a shot on target in the first half. They managed to score a lucky goal after the break, but what they did immediately after that irked Arteta.
Who was Arsenal’s most disappointing player vs Wolves?
He said in his post-match press conference: “We had to improve in the second half in relation to that, I think we did it.
“We generated more chances, scored a goal, but after we had a period of two or three minutes in deep, totally passive, with horrible defensive habits, that is nowhere near the level that is required against a team that hasn’t had a single shot.
“The first time that they had the opportunity to do it, they scored the goal, and this is the Premier League. Unfortunately, we are relieved because we managed to score a goal at the end and go and win it, but we need to improve in that sense for sure.”
Arsenal fans react to Mikel Arteta’s strong comments after Arsenal beat Wolves
Mikel Arteta accusing his side of having ‘horrible defensive habits’ is a surprise, as the Arsenal manager always defends his players after games.
Watching that, fans are convinced that the Spaniard was angrier than he has ever been before.

One Arsenal supporter tweeted: “Arteta was as furious as you’ll see him be publicly about the team.”
Another wrote: “Arteta fuming about the whole performance and saying the defensive part of our game was horrendous. At least he has not come out and sugar-coated anything.”
“Arteta seemed fuming after that performance despite the three points. The standards that guy sets for this club is the reason why they’re 5 clear at the top right now,” said another.
Another Arsenal fan wrote: “This is as angry as you’re ever going to see Arteta when talking about his own team in post-match interviews. He’s fuming inside, but he will never express it fully in public. In the dressing room, however….”
“I’ve never seen Arteta that angry,” tweeted another.
Imagine you are Mikel Arteta. What would your message to Arsenal players be after that performance vs Wolves?
Mikel Arteta’s anger is completely justified
Arsenal players cannot have any complaints if Arteta had a go at them in the dressing room after the win.
Bukayo Saka was the only starter who had a good game. Everyone else was below the standards, and that could’ve led to an embarrassing defeat at home.
That is not acceptable, especially just a week after another very disappointing performance against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
Arsenal have a full week to rest now, and we’re sure Arteta will get his message across. We expect the players to be at their best when they take on Everton next Saturday.
