Noni Madueke started in Bukayo Saka’s absence for Arsenal against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The Englishman was making just his second start for the Gunners, having been named in the starting eleven for the first time last weekend against Leeds.
Deployed in a front three alongside Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Martinelli, Madueke stood out with an eye-catching display.
The former Chelsea man’s performance will give Mikel Arteta food for thought moving forward, with the player certainly doing enough to challenge Saka once he’s back.

Arsenal fans react to Noni Madueke’s performance vs Liverpool
Arsenal signed Madueke for £52 million from Chelsea earlier this summer to provide Saka with genuine cover and competition.
With Saka out due to a hamstring injury, the 23-year-old was granted an opportunity to impress away at Anfield, and he certainly did so.
Madueke’s performance against Leeds divided the Arsenal fanbase, but the Gunners supporters were united in their views on his showing against the Merseysiders.
One fan wrote on X: “Not every action has come off for him but I think Madueke has been top so far.”
Another added: “I’ve enjoyed this Madueke performance.”
Another fan posited: “Madueke is doing all the right things. He’s being so wonderfully direct and forcing the fullback into desperate situations. Would love for him to keep going.”
Meanwhile, one supporter praised Madueke in his assessment of the Gunners’ first half: “HT: Very scrappy game but thought Arsenal did well – especially with [William] Saliba going off so early. We tried some different things OOP and Liverpool couldn’t get going at all. [Cristhian] Mosquera looks assured, Madueke very dangerous out wide – that’s obviously the ball. We look secure.”
Noni Madueke’s statistics vs Liverpool
Madueke showed exactly why Arsenal opted to invest so heavily in him against Liverpool.
A constant outlet for the Gunners, they were able to release him in space regularly up against Milos Kerkez, and he caused the Liverpool full-back problems throughout.

While he was somewhat loose in possession, completing just 56% of his passes, Arteta tasked him with being Arsenal’s release valve, and he did this effectively.
Taking three shots and managing nine touches inside Liverpool’s box, Madueke was by far the North London team’s most dangerous player on the day.
