Arsenal got their pre-season campaign up and running with a 1-0 victory over AC Milan.

Martin Zubimendi was excellent on his Arsenal debut as he showed his defensive intelligence and range of passing at the base of the midfield.

Arsenal fans were impressed with Bukayo Saka and Ben White as the duo linked up well down the right flank to create a number of dangerous moments during the match.

It was Saka that got the only goal after an excellent cross from Jakub Kiwior but supporters are all talking about the latest talent to come out of the Hale End academy. 15-year-old Max Dowman.

Arsenal fans react to Max Dowman’s senior debut

It was a first senior appearance for Dowman and after coming on for Saka just after the hour mark, it did not take long for the young talent to make his mark.

He looked composed on the ball and immediately looked to make things happen in the final third, Arsenal fans have taken to X to wax lyrical about their new superstar.

One fan wrote: “Nah nah nah nah this Max Dowman kid is SPECIAL the composure and comfortability on the ball for a 15 year old is nothing short of sensational.”

Another fan believes he has already worked out Dowman’s market value after his wonderful display, they wrote: “Max Dowman. He’s worth 80m already…pure silk talent.”

Another fan was also quick to point out the performance of another Hale End talent in Marli Salmon, they wrote: “Dowman has been fantastic, and will get most of the spotlight, rightly so. However, Salmon has been fantastic here as well. Could be the MLS who didn’t get too much attention but just burst into the team with his qualities. Nichols has done nothing wrong neither.”

Max Dowman can take inspiration from Ethan Nwaneri

Whilst Dowman will get some valuable experience on the pre-season tour of Asia, it is unlikely he will see any competitive first-team action in the Premier League for a while.

Ethan Nwaneri will be a great example for Dowman to follow, there may be an opportunity to play in a Carabao Cup tie or Champions League game with less significance riding on it.

Nwaneri took his chance to shine in those games last season and eventually broke into Mikel Arteta’s plans when a number of injuries occurred.

It may have to be the same path for Dowman this season but at just 15 years of age, he has plenty of time to develop all aspects of his game.

The first glimpse of him in the senior squad has excited supporters and rightly so but it is important to not get carried away and let the boy still enjoy his youth football and development in the academy.
