Arsenal fans cannot believe what they are seeing from one player’s ‘shocking’ performance

Arsenal are taking on Manchester United in their opening game of the Premier League season.

Mikel Arteta handed a debut to new striker Viktor Gyokeres ahead of Kai Havertz and Martin Zubimendi also made his first appearance in midfield.

The Gunners took the lead early on as Declan Rice’s corner caused problems for Man United’s goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and Riccardo Calafiori was there to nod home.

Arsenal were not their usual self in the first half and in a frantic performance, supporters have let their feelings be known over one player in particular.

Arsenal fans react to William Saliba’s performance v Manchester United

Manchester United looked the stronger of the two teams and were capitalising on some nervy defending from Arteta’s side.

William Saliba is usually a figure of composure and authority but has looked rattled by United’s new strike duo of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Arsenal fans have pointed it out on X.

One fan wrote: “Saliba is a complete mess in this game. Get him off. Going to cost us a goal.”

Another fan wrote: “Man Saliba is so off his game today.” Whilst another Arsenal supporter was in complete agreement as they stated: “Saliba needs to chill man.”

It wasn’t just Saliba in line for criticism from the fans as one supporter wrote: “This performance should send the alarm bells ringing for Arsenal and Arteta. Scored a Stoke goal and almost completely vanished. Awful debut for Zubimendi, losing one duel after another. Shaky at the back, particularly Saliba. Wide open on both flanks. United simply better.”

William Saliba yet to sign Arsenal contract amid Real Madrid interest

There is still uncertainty surrounding Saliba’s future as Andrea Berta tries to negotiate a new contract for the French defender this summer.

Saliba has indicated he wants to stay at Arsenal but as of yet no agreement has been reached with the club over a new deal.

Arsenal fans are desperate for Saliba to stay and so they should after he has become one of the world’s best in his position.

The Gunners will be hoping his future will be sorted soon so Saliba can do what he does best and perform on the pitch for Arteta’s side.
