Ethan Nwaneri took full advantage after being handed a starting role in Arsenal’s EFL Cup clash against Preston North End.
Mikel Arteta gave Ethan Nwaneri just his second ever start for Arsenal at Deepdale Stadium.
The 17-year-old sensation’s only previous start came in this same competition earlier this season, when he bagged a brace against Bolton Wanderers.
The Hale End academy wonderkid added to his tally against Preston North End, as his stunning strike into the top corner from range put the North London outfit 2-0 up in the first half. Nwaneri made Arsenal history in the process of scoring this goal, as he became the youngest player to find the back of the net on each of his first two starts for the club.
The teenager impressed throughout this match, looking assured on the ball and capable of producing moments of magic.

Arsenal fans hail Ethan Nwaneri after Preston North End clash
Many Arsenal fans on X were thrilled by Nwaneri’s display against the Championship side.
One stated: “What a gorgeous goal from Ethan Nwaneri. A new star is born. Remember the name. Hale End has done it again.”
Another said: “Never knew he had that in this locker, oh my.”
One supporter claimed: “In case you somehow still weren’t aware, Ethan Nwaneri is special. Very special.”
Another added: “Pffttttt he’s crazy man, what a finish.”
Arsenal fans have been urging Arteta to play Nwaneri more regularly for some time. Those calls will only grow louder and more insistent after his efforts this evening.
Nwaneri sends message to Mikel Arteta
Nwaneri has now proven that he can thrive at first team level, and a first Premier League start has to be on its way for the youngster.
Particularly with Martin Odegaard still sidelined by injury, Nwaneri can add the creative spark that Arteta’s side have lacked in some recent outings. The manager must recognise that the homegrown gem is ready to step up and deliver.
Odegaard has been a mentor for Nwaneri at Arsenal, and whilst the youngster may prove to be the Norwegian playmaker’s long-term heir at the Emirates Stadium, he is also capable of stepping into his boots now.
