Arsenal fans have a lot to say about Leandro Trossard after facing former club Brighton

Leandro Trossard is now one of only three senior attackers available to Mikel Arteta following Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Arsenal lost Ethan Nwaneri to injury in the first half – the 17-year-old’s game was cut short at half-time after scoring his first goal in the Premier League.

As a result, Arteta was forced to play Gabriel Martinelli out on the right for Arsenal, a position that has inspired mixed performances from the Brazilian.

In one performance, the simplicity of playing on the right seems to suit Martinelli – his pace and decision-making is benefitted by simply hitting the byline and hitting a cross.

However, when he tries to cut inside from the right, things suddenly look more awkward than ever.

That being said, in his strongest position on the left, Martinelli’s more experienced alternative, Trossard, isn’t looking anymore effective.

Arsenal fans take aim at Leandro Trossard after Brighton ‘disaster’

Trossard played all 90 minutes for Arsenal against Brighton, but wasn’t able to deal any damage to his old club.

Taking to X during and after the game, Arsenal fans now seem to have lost patience with Trossard, a player who simply isn’t delivering on anything like a regular basis.

One supporter compared Trossard to Brennan Johnson at Tottenham Hotspur, stating that his occasional goal was hiding his lack of contributions elsewhere.

They wrote: “Trossard is genuinely Arsenal’s Brennan Johnson but with way more tech. Absolutely stinks in open play but grabs you a goal to try and mask the stench.

“Wingers who do nothing in open play.”

Other supporters then took aim at Trossard alongside a few of his underperforming teammates.

One fan simply said: “We are not doing anything this year with Martinelli and Trossard as our wingers.”

Of course, Trossard had interest from Saudi Arabia in the past, with one supporter hoping that a bid for the winger might arrive this month.

“There was speak of Trossard contract talks at the start of the season too, send that guy to Saudi Arabia and [Gabriel] Jesus can go with him.”

Mikel Arteta can’t ignore January transfer window

Perhaps those conclusions are slightly harsh, Trossard has still contributed in vital moments this season.

But it’s also hard to disagree with the idea that the Belgian international should be nothing more than a squad player for Arteta.

Trossard has always looked more effective from the bench, a player who is able to lean on his experience when judging a game and making an impact.

That being said, Arteta is making a mistake with a different Arsenal player, a decision that didn’t help the cause against Brighton.

The club’s injury crisis has handed Arteta some tricky situations this month, and it’s hard not to conclude that Arsenal need to make the most of the January transfer window.
