Arsenal continued their pre-season preparations with a home fixture against Spanish side Villarreal.

Mikel Arteta handed a home debut to Christian Norgaard in midfield, whilst Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka started on the wings.

The Gunners were looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the final match of the Asia tour.

Viktor Gyokeres was also handed his first start for the club after playing 12 minutes against Spurs and fans have already noticed something exciting about the striker before the game even began.

Arsenal fans react to Viktor Gyokeres power during warm up

A video has emerged of Gyokeres doing some finishing drills in the warm up to the clash with Villarreal and Arsenal fans have immediately drawn comparisons with former striker Lukas Podolski.

Supporters were taken aback by the power behind the finishes from the 27-year-old and compared it to the pure power of their former German striker.

Fans have taken to X to react to the clip, one Arsenal fan wrote: “That ball striking is incredible I’m sold already on our new striker.”

Another supporter wrote: “Gyokeres is a threat to be honest rival fans should be scared any chance this guy is scoring.”

One supporter believes that the range of finishes will help the Swede make an impact this season, they wrote: “He looks soo comfortable striking it from any sort of tight angle. Think he’ll score a lot of goals where it’s in the corners or near posts.”

Another supporter made light of the fact that the power of the strikes were beyond belief, they wrote: “Looks like he hates it the way he tries to break it!”

Viktor Gyokeres could take set pieces from Bukayo Saka

Currently Bukayo Saka takes most of Arsenal’s penalties and free kicks, however with the ability and power that Gyokeres has shown already, he may take over the responsibility.

Saka missed his last penalty in the Champions League quarter final clash at the Bernabeu and has missed some vital spot kicks in the past.

Gyokeres surprised many on the pre-season tour by being quite a quiet character and allowing him to grow in confidence with some goals from dead ball situations may be the perfect way to bring his confidence out even more.

The striker will want to be in the box on corners and wide free kicks however, with Saka taking charge on those.
