Arsenal fans were absolutely loving the link-up between Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, and there was a sense that the latter looked back to his best against Crystal Palace.
The 24-year-old looked the most lively of the Gunners’ attackers in the first 45 minutes against the South London club in the Carabao Cup.
Change our mind: Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus will both be starters for Arsenal by the end of the season…
Mikel Arteta made eight changes to the team from the weekend’s win over Everton, with Jesus also being given his first start in almost 12 months.
There was some slight concern for Martinelli towards the end of the half after he took a blow to the knee, but fortunately, he seemed to be ok after what was an exciting display.
Arsenal fans hail Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli’s connection
Arsenal fans believe that Gabriel Martinelli looks like a ‘completely different player’ when Gabriel Jesus is on the field with him.
Jesus was making his first start for Arsenal in almost 12 months after recovering from an ACL injury, which had sidelined him back in January of 2024.
Martinelli has also just returned from an injury himself and has been having to work hard to earn his place in the team back, especially with Leandro Trossard in such fine form.
In the first half, Martinelli completed five dribbles, created five chances, two big chances and had nine touches in Palace’s penalty area.
One fan said: “It can’t be a coincidence that Gabriel Martinelli is having one of his best matches for ages on the day he is reunited with Gabriel Jesus in the forward line. The two Brazilians operate on the same wavelength. Always have done.”
Agree or disgaree? Gabriel Martinelli is Arsenal’s most technically gifted player…
If not, which Arsenal players are you choosing instead?
“Martinelli, when Jesus starts, is a completely different player,” added another supporter.
A third fan added: “Jesus and Martinelli had such a good understanding in the early part of the 2022/23 season. Injuries have denied them linking up much since, but seeing that understanding, again, tonight.”
There was yet more praise for the Brazilian duo: “Martinelli turning into prime CR7 the minute he plays with Jesus is no coincidence.”
Finally, another simply added: “Jesus’ return has given new life to Martinelli.”
Ian Wright hails Gabriel Martinelli versus Crystal Palace
Ian Wright was also full of praise for Martinelli following his first-half performance against Crystal Palace.
There was a real sense that the Brazilian was Jaydee Canvot many problems down Palace’s right-hand side at the Emirates Stadium.
Wright told ITV Football: “Arsenal have looked very sharp and are moving the ball very quickly.
“Gabriel Martinelli is having a wonderful time down that left-hand side – hopefully that injury isn’t too serious. He’s caused Jaydee Canvot so many problems.”
