Arsenal’s win over Olympiacos in the Champions League wasn’t all rosy, despite making it two wins from two.

It’s been a dream start for Mikel Arteta’s side in Europe, winning their opening two games 2-0 to take home a maximum points tally so far.

Greater challenges will come, with Atletico Madrid up next, but for now, the Gunners will be satisfied with the start.

That being said, the win over Olympiacos wasn’t entirely plain sailing, and not only because the visitors threatened in the second half.

Viktor Gyokeres would’ve been frustrated not to have scored against Olympiacos

David Raya had to pull off a top save against Olympiacos to deny former Wolves winger Daniel Podence.

While Raya was tested at one end, Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis was put to work by Arsenal’s forwards.

Viktor Gyokeres impressed when Olympiacos visited, but the Swede did not get on the scoresheet, something that James McNicholas suspects would’ve frustrated the striker.

Speaking on the Gunnerblog YouTube channel, The Athletic reporter focused on how the fixture was one made for Gyokeres’ strengths.

“He’s going to thrive when he’s got space to run in behind. He had that tonight. This was a Viktor Gyokeres game,” McNicholas said.

“Yet I think he’ll feel very frustrated because he leaves it without a goal. That’s probably two games in succession where he’s been a bit unlucky or certainly will be disappointed not to have left with a goal.”

Gyokeres had one of his best performances against Newcastle and followed on with an impressive display against Olympiacos, two games in which he failed to score.

Gyokeres’ output has improved

The season started in an isolated fashion for Gyokeres, whose teammates were still learning how to get the best out of the striker.

Now, the ball is truly rolling for the forward, who is getting more and more chances to take a shot on goal.

In his previous two games, Gyokeres has fired nine shots on goal, recording as many as six against Newcastle and three against Olympiacos.

For a goal-hungry striker, there’s nothing more frustrating than ending games without being on the scoresheet, but it’s a matter of when, not if, for Arsenal’s number 14 right now.
