The majority of the Arsenal squad performed exceptionally well when the Gunners beat Nottingham Forest.

It was an afternoon for the Emirates Stadium to enjoy, as Arsenal returned to winning ways to beat Nottingham Forest 3-0.

Viktor Gyokeres wrote his name into Arsenal history by scoring in his first two Premier League home games, but in front of goal, there was a different protagonist.

Martin Zubimendi scored twice to win the Gunners the game, converting a jaw-dropping volley to open the scoring and then closing with a second-half header.

Martin Zubimendi hailed by Spanish media after Nottingham Forest brace

The Spaniard’s performance epitomised why Arsenal spent over £50m to purchase him from Real Sociedad in the summer.

The Gunners will be so happy that Zubimendi snubbed Liverpool for Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta reaping the benefits of the midfielder already.

After Arsenal’s win, Arteta described Zubimendi as ‘incredible’ in his post-match press conference, but it wasn’t only those in North London who waxed lyrical about the 26-year-old.

Back in Spain, the ex-Real Sociedad star made the headlines, with Sport reacting to his performance by titling a piece, ‘Zubimendi worth an empire’.

The Spanish outlet celebrated what the Basque midfielder did to Nottingham Forest, applauding Arsenal’s summer signing and sharing their opinion that his value is beyond any boundary.

Signed as a defensive midfielder, it is fantastic to realise that Zubimendi can offer goals, which would’ve come as a surprise, given that he’s only netted 12 in his entire senior career.

Mikel Merino’s funny reaction to Zubimendi’s two goals vs Forest

Aside from Spanish media and the Arsenal manager, Luis de la Fuente would’ve loved what he saw Zubimendi do against Forest.

It’s been quite the week for Spain’s midfielders, with Mikel Merino scoring freely for Spain over the September international break, including a hat-trick against Turkey.

Merino drew attention to the goalscoring phenomenon that’s unfolding in Spain’s midfield after Arsenal’s win over Forest, taking to Instagram to share a humorous message.

“What is going on with our midfielders lately?! Congrats on your brace!!” Merino joked.

It was an afternoon to remember for Zubimendi, who won’t score many goals better than his first against Forest.
