Bukayo Saka makes Gunners history and Mikel Arteta’s tactical change – four things you missed in Arsenal vs Ipswich

Mikel Arteta’s side were dominant during their 4-0 victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

After their Madrid success midweek, Arsenal continued their impressive form, never looking fazed at Portman Road.

Makeshift striker Leandro Trossard kicked off proceedings with a well-taken finish in the 14th minute, with Gabriel Martinelli then adding a second midway through the first half.

Trossard would then grab a well-deserved brace in the 69th minute, before Ethan Nwaneri rounded off a comfortable afternoon’s work for Arsenal.

In what was a dominant display by the Gunners, here are four things you may have missed.

Declan Rice’s positional change

After Declan Rice’s fantastic Madrid performance, not many would have expected Arteta to change the Englishman’s position.

The Gunners boss, however, would do exactly that against Ipswich, positioning Rice slightly deeper in the number six role, in place of Thomas Partey, who was rested at Portman Road.

This decision from Arteta was actually the first time since January 18 vs Aston Villa that Rice had started as the Arsenal number six.

Andrea Berta arrives with Arsenal team

Andrea Berta made his first Emirates appearance in the game against Fulham, and it now seems he is getting more comfortable with his new surroundings.

That is because he actually arrived with the Arsenal team at Portman Road ahead of the Ipswich clash – something which former sporting director Edu also used to do.

Buyako Saka breaks Arsenal history

Bukayo Saka’s injury woes have prevented him from featuring much in 2025, with his start away at Ipswich actually being his first league start this calendar year.

It would also be the 23-year-old’s 190th Premier League appearance in an Arsenal shirt, which means he now ranks above Gunners legend Robert Pires in that metric, with Ian Wright’s record of 191 also set to be beaten soon.

Gabriel Martinelli nets Arsenal record

Martinelli would grab Arsenal’s second goal of the afternoon, and that goal would turn out to be his 50th in a Gunners shirt.

Still just 23 years old, the Brazilian is now the fourth-youngest Arsenal player in the Premier League era to reach that tally, ahead of the likes of Robin Van Persie and Thierry Henry.
