‘Disgraceful’ – Arsenal fans are all in agreement with one star Mikel Arteta needs to ‘get off the pitch’

Arsenal travelled to Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League quarter final.

Bukayo Saka had the chance to give Arsenal a dream start in the Bernabeu but his attempted ‘Panenka’ penalty was read by keeper Thibaut Courtois following an initial foul on Mikel Merino.

Kylian Mbappe was then denied a penalty on VAR review after a foul from Declan Rice was then considered to be not enough contact for the striker to go down.

Mikel Arteta’s side looked comfortable for most of the first half but frustrations were growing amongst fans with the performance of one player in particular.

Arsenal fans slam ‘disgraceful’ Martin Odegaard performance

Martin Odegaard worked hard during the first half and was leading from the front as always with the press however, the captain was sloppy on the ball and broke down numerous counter attacks.

Arsenal fans have taken to X to voice their frustrations over his display, one fan wrote: “Odegaard this is a disgraceful performance.”

Another Gunners fan wrote: “Get Odegaard off the pitch right now. Don’t even wait.” Whilst another fan stated: “He does a lot of good stuff but man… Odegaard is killing me today.”

It seems that many are in agreement that the Norwegian’s performances on the whole this season have been below-par, one fan wrote: “Odegaard has been pretty terrible today. Definitely not his season, but really need him to step up here.”

Martin Odegaard decline this season for Arsenal

Gary Neville claimed Odegaard has declined and his statistics this season would back up the former Manchester United defender.

Whilst there is no doubting his quality to this Arsenal side, the effects of an early season ankle injury may have played a part in the sharpness in his decision making not being up to his usual standard.

Should the Gunners see the job through in Madrid, Odegaard will have further opportunities to increase his goal contributions this season.

He can silence critics by doing what he does best since arriving from Real Madrid in scoring and creating goals in important matches.
