Eberechi Eze says how he really feels about playing alongside ‘special’ Martin Odegaard at Arsenal

Eberechi Eze was the man for the big occasion as Arsenal beat Newcastle as his stunning goal was the difference.

Eze was picked alongside Martin Odegaard, Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice, as Mikel Arteta showed some attacking intent and was rewarded in the end.

Of course, Eze’s goal was the highlight but it was the performance of Martin Odegaard that was also eye-catching.

Odegaard showed why he’s so important to the Gunners and speaking after the game, goalscorer Eze admitted that playing with the skipper is a joy.

It shows how far Arsenal have come that we have two players of the quality of Odegaard and Eze in the same team.

Both can win you a game with a moment of quality and while it was Eze’s turn today, he’s admitted that playing with Odegaard does help.

“It’s beautiful. He’s a special player and he’s always looking to find players in the pockets,” Eze commented on Sky Sports.

“He’s so creative. And these are the types of players you’re going to play with, makes you better, puts you in better positions. So, yeah, I enjoy it a lot.”

Martin Odegaard’s impressive stats against Newcastle

Eze’s thunderous strike will get all the headlines but Odegaard really was impressive at times.

Along with his tireless work rate, the Norwegian was also instrumental in trying to get Arsenal going in the final third.

The skipper created four big chances in the game, had a passing accuracy of 89% in what was a tense atmosphere in general, and continually looked to probe away to find his fellow attacking players.

Odegaard also did well going the other way, completing an impressive seven ball recoveries as he helped his defence out as well.

At the final whistle, Odegaard was seen collapsing to the floor, exhausted. This was a true captain’s performance and one which for now, can inspire the rest of his team for the final few weeks of the season.
