Why Morgan Gibbs-White could be Arsenal’s answer to their left-sided problems

Morgan Gibbs-White is very much one of the men of the moment right now after once again leading Nottingham Forest to a huge win over Sunderland.

Gibbs-White scored a brilliant hat-trick last time out and followed it up with another goal and assist as Forest ran riot in the northeast.

In the past, Gibbs-White has been heavily linked with a move to our North London neighbours, Tottenham Hotspur.

But while Gibbs-White has always been seen as more of a number ten, a recent shift to the left side of the front four has given him a new lease of life and one that, in theory, should be catching Arsenal’s eye.

Arsenal should try to sign Morgan Gibbs-White

Some might say it’s a bit reactionary to simply say Arsenal should go for Gibbs-White based off just a few performances.

But the reality is that this is a player who has been building towards a move to one of the ‘Big Six’ for some time now.

Gibbs-White has excelled wherever he has been. He shone in a loan spell at Sheffield United, ultimately earning him his big money move to Forest. Since then, he’s become their talisman, leader with the captain’s armband and in more recent weeks, has put the club on his back to get them out of relegation trouble.

Yes, the quality in Gibbs-White’s play is obvious. He has scored eight goals in his last 11 games, and since moving to the left-side, seems to have found a new freedom in his game.

However, while that goal threat and ability to create is admirable, it is the character of Gibbs-White that is standing out as well.

In his club’s time of need, they’ve needed their big players to step up and he has done just that.

He has become more than just an inspiration with his play, but seems to be geeing up his teammates constantly, showing a greater responsibility in his game.

Further, anyone who watches the Forest man regularly will attest to him not just being about the flashy bits of play either. Gibbs-White works tirelessly for his team, leads the press from the final third, and crucially, he’s added that finishing touch.

It’s now 17 goals and seven assists for the season. He is likely to make the plane for England in the summer and if he has a good tournament in the USA, then his value will only sky-rocket.

Arsenal, then, need to be getting ahead of the game here and putting the feelers out early.
