After Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Brighton at the Amex, Fabian Hurzeler fumed about David Raya, calling the goalkeeper out for time-wasting.
Negative feedback has been fired at Arsenal in all directions after their win against Chelsea, and Hurzeler wants it to continue.
Liam Rosenior called for a rule change after facing Arsenal, referring to the Gunners’ tactics in the box during set-pieces, and now, Hurzeler has sent a plea to the Premier League.
The Brighton manager was furious with Arsenal’s game plan, accusing Raya of time-wasting when talking to TNT Sports at full-time.
Who was Arsenal’s most disappointing player despite the 1-0 win vs Brighton?
Fabian Hurzeler wants a rule change on time-wasting after losing to Arsenal
Given how fiery Hurzeler was towards Arsenal and their set-pieces in his pre-match press conference, it was no surprise to hear him give a strong assessment post-match, too.
When asked about a penalty call, the German coach insisted that Brighton should have had a spot-kick, but that seemed to be the least of his worries.
“No, in the end, we have to accept the decision, for me it’s about handling the other things better, in general,” Hurzeler said, before calling for a rule change.
“The Premier League needs to find a rule because I think that’s not football what Arsenal did there. And therefore, that was more the point I made to him when you see.”
The interviewer then asked what his idea of a solution would look like.
“Add the game time, more yellow cards for time wasting. Let me ask you, have you ever seen a goalkeeper go down three times in one game?”
Arsenal need to keep doing what they’re doing
Hurzeler wasn’t happy; he made that very clear, but his feedback means nothing to Arsenal.
It’s guaranteed that if his team were holding onto a win in an incredibly high-pressure title race, more time would be taken in the latter stages to conserve leads.
What would your message to the Arsenal team be after the Brighton win?
The circumstances are different, and it’s Arsenal in that situation, so naturally, Hurzeler’s take was that the Gunners’ style was something repulsive.
A hard-fought win is what Arsenal saw out; they got the job done within the boundaries of the law and returned to North London with three points.
Do that until the end of the season, and the title is theirs, so why change now?
