Viktor Gyokeres was the star of the show as Arsenal beat Atletico Madrid 4-0.

The Sweden international had come under a fair bit of criticism in recent weeks for not finding the net, but he ended his drought on Tuesday night.

Gyokeres scored twice from close range to help Arsenal win, and he was awarded the Man of the Match award after the game.

Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf was impressed with the striker, but another player caught his eye too – Gabriel Martinelli.

Clarence Seedorf says Gabriel Martinelli was ‘on fire’ for Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid

Mikel Arteta chose Martinelli on the left wing against Atletico Madrid, despite Leandro Trossard scoring from that position in the previous fixture against Fulham.

The Brazil international had a good game.

Martinelli worked tirelessly and looked like he had a spring in his step. He had a goal disallowed for offside and came close to another when he tried a header.

In the 64th minute, he finally found the net after a brilliant finish to convert Myles Lewis-Skelly’s assist.

Seedorf, who has played with superstars like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo Nazario and Dennis Bergkamp, was impressed with Martinelli’s performance.

He said on Amazon Prime Video during their post-match analysis: “I think they really exhausted Atletico (in the) first half.

“Atletico pushed a lot, came out again, but it was just hitting against the wall at a certain point. They didn’t know what to do anymore, and Arsenal showed that energy.

“Martinelli today was on fire.”

Arsenal fans are impressed by Gabriel Martinelli’s performance

Martinelli received a lot of criticism over the last two seasons because of his form.

The Brazil international will be the first to admit that he wasn’t at his best, but there has been a change in him over the last few weeks.

The 24-year-old has now scored in all three of Arsenal’s Champions League games, and fans are heaping praise on him.

One Arsenal fan said: “This more confident & aggressive-again Gabriel Martinelli is always getting on the end of things and making a nuisance of himself. It’s much better from him generally. Love to see it.”

Another said: “Martinelli looks like a new man this season. Funny how a bit of competition can wake you up. He’s sharper, hungrier, and playing like someone who knows his spot isn’t guaranteed. Sometimes, all you need is a little pressure to bring out your best.”

“As sharp and fresh Martinelli has looked in a longgg time. Can’t overlook the toll last season had on him when we could hardly rest him due to injuries,” said another.
