Arsenal’s players are preparing to jet off across the world as the first international break of the season looms.
The Gunners head into the break off the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Liverpool as Dominik Szoboszlai’s majestic free kick proved to be the difference.
Mikel Arteta has come in for criticism following defeat in how he approached the game in a cautious manner. Peter Schmeichel is furious with Arsenal branding their style of football as ‘ugly’.
Viktor Gyokeres was starved of service and cut an isolated figure up top and former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has singled out one player as a particular source of ‘frustration’.

Emmanuel Petit ‘frustrated’ by Gabriel Martinelli’s performance v Liverpool
Speaking on talkSPORT, Petit has expressed his disappointment over Arteta’s approach to the clash with Liverpool and highlighted Gabriel Martinelli in particular as a player that needs to improve.
Arsenal fans were furious with Martinelli after the Brazilian missed an early opportunity to play Viktor Gyokeres through on goal and Petit is in agreement with the supporters.
Petit stated: “I was quite frustrated with the lack of connection, you know, Gyokeres. I was very frustrated with once again you know the production from Martinelli and the way they have they’ve been driving the ball.
“You know controlling the ball I think uh this is something very good if you want to control the ball you know especially in midfield you you have to put a rhythm into the game but at the end of the day you have to score goals.
“That means you have to play you know up front you know in open areas things like this you have to bring danger you know you have to play sometimes crazy movement.”
Gary Lineker was critical of Martinelli, especially with the 23-year-old facing Szoboszlai at right back, a player more accustomed to an attacking midfield role.
Gabriel Martinelli could still leave Arsenal this summer
Many believe Martinelli should have been sold this summer but despite the transfer window shutting for most of Europe, there is still a possible exit path for the Brazilian.
Should the Gunners wish to cash in on Martinelli, the Turkish transfer window does not close until September 12 and the Saudi Arabian window is open until September 23rd.

Martinelli has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia, alongside teammate Leandro Trossard, however, the pair currently remain part of Arteta’s plans.
Should a bid come in before the end of the month, Arsenal would have a serious decision to make on either of the wingers.
