Arsenal will be delighted to have reached the Carabao Cup final by beating Chelsea, but for their attacking options, it was a tough evening.
Viktor Gyokeres was shocking against Chelsea, managing just 10 touches across his 69-minute cameo at the Emirates Stadium.
😬 After Noni Madueke’s display vs Chelsea, I now feel __________ about Bukayo Saka’s injury at Arsenal…
Kai Havertz came off the bench to ensure the game did not finish goalless by taking the ball around Robert Sanchez and booking the Gunners’ ticket to Wembley.
However, Gyokeres was not the only Arsenal star who struggled against the Blues, and Mikel Arteta should be worried by his front line’s performance.
Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli struggled against Chelsea
Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli both struggled against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup; however, it was the former who was really poor.
The Spanish coach opted to shuffle his winger for the Carabao Cup semi-final, with Bukayo Saka injured, and Leandro Trossard left on the bench.
Arteta said Saka’s injury was just a precaution, and he will certainly be hoping that is the case after watching Madueke struggle against Chelsea.
The Gunners’ outset to ensure they did not lose the match didn’t help the attackers, but when the team had chances to attack, the winger looked well off the pace.
Do you agree with our Arsenal player ratings vs Chelsea?
Any harsh/generous scores?
Madueke lost possession on 11 occasions, failed to have a single shot or complete a single dribble, and managed just eight passes.
The England international struggled against Marc Cucurella, whom Saka has got the better of on so many occasions.
Arteta eventually opted to drag him off for Trossard and even switched Martinelli across to the right wing ahead of him.
Ally McCoist claimed Madueke has taken Saka’s spot; however, after that display from the 24-year-old, the latter has little to worry about.
Gary Neville questions Arsenal’s attack vs Chelsea
Gary Neville questioned Arsenal’s attacker against the Blues and was particularly disappointed by Gyokeres.
The former Premier League star warned them that the team needed much more as they struggled to create very few chances.
Neville told Sky Sports: “A massive struggle for Gyokeres. Arsenal need more from their forward players; they’ve not done enough.”
