Four winners and one loser as Arsenal beat Burnley to almost secure Premier League title

Arsenal are one game away from becoming Premier League champions – how does that sound?

The Gunners beat Burnley on Monday night to move within one game of winning the league, but, as has often been the case, this wasn’t a vintage performance, and there were some shaky moments for sure.

It was a classic ‘1-0 to the Arsenal’, and that’s all that matters at this point.

With all of that in mind, we’ve listed our winners and losers from this match.

Who was your Man of the Match against Burnley?

Winners

Martin Odegaard

Something has clicked again for Martin Odegaard over the past fortnight or so.

Odegaard was back to his creative best against West Ham off the bench last week, and he looked like he was carrying that on here, within the first 15 minutes, he played two great passes for Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, and he looked very confident in everything he did.

The Arsenal captain is, once again, showing why he’s one of the Gunners’ most important players when he’s on form.

Kai Havertz

Trusted to start in this game and came up with the goods.

Brilliant header for the opening goal of the game, staking his claim for a starting spot in the Champions League final.

Perhaps should have been sent off for a bad tackle in the second-half, but he did get away with it in the end.

Mikel Arteta now has a big decision on his hands.

Bukayo Saka

Looked really positive again here. Saka, Havertz and Odegaard are our winners here, and they were the attacking trio that defined this game. They linked up well, and while they didn’t run rampant, they were three key performers in this game.

Mikel Arteta

Not necessarily a winner due to anything that happened on the pitch tonight.

Halfway through Arsenal’s game against Burnley news started to break that Pep Guardiola will be leaving Manchester City at the end of this season.

Those reports remain unconfirmed, but if Guardiola leaves, Mikel Arteta could well now consider himself the best manager in the Premier League and he will take up the record as the longest-reigning too.

Losers

Viktor Gyokeres

Viktor Gyokeres must be feeling a small amount of pain after watching Kai Havertz play so well here.

There’s a real battle emerging to start the Champions League final for Arsenal, and, it’s so hard to call who will win.

Gyokeres came off the bench himself in the second half and looked positive, but he didn’t score and Havertz was better.

After this game, you would say Havertz has staked his case to start against PSG, but, then again, how much can you decide based on a game against an already-relegated Burnley side?
