Gabriel Martinelli admits he had one problem with Arsenal’s win over Port Vale

Gabriel Martinelli has had a joyous week at Arsenal, a week that could’ve been made even better against Port Vale.

The winger earned his first start in three games as the Carabao Cup returned for Arsenal.

The Gunners beat Port Vale 2-0 in what was a tough outing against Darren Moore’s spirited side.

Moore was honoured by how strong Arsenal’s starting XI was, as Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino led the attack.

Gabriel Martinelli sends message to Myles Lewis-Skelly after Port Vale win

It wasn’t surprising to see Martinelli named in the starting lineup after scoring against Athletic Club and Manchester City.

The Brazilian would’ve wanted to add to his collection of goal contributions against Port Vale, having played a part in three goals in his previous two games.

That being said, Martinelli firmly believes that he claimed an assist against at Vale Park, sending a message to Myles Lewis-Skelly after the victory.

Under Arsenal’s post celebrating Eberechi Eze’s goal, Martinelli made a claim that Lewis-Skelly didn’t assist the summer signing.

“My assist bro @Myles Lewis-Skelly, you didn’t touch the ball,” Martinelli joked.

Though Lewis-Skelly was brilliant against Port Vale, Martinelli believes the assist should be removed from his match statistics.

It was all a bit of banter between Martinelli and Lewis-Skelly, but there are certainly some things the Brazilian would’ve liked to change about his performance against Port Vale.

After starring in the previous two games, the 24-year-old started on the left flank, which, in comparison, seemed to limit his output.

Arteta could transform Martinelli by making him a striker, with his impact against Port Vale exposing the challenges the Brazil international’s style of play faces when pinned to the touchline.

Martinelli failed to record a shot on goal and only managed to complete one of his dribbles, as well as one of his crosses.

After the past week of action, it’s clearer than ever to see what system works best for Martinelli, with only Arteta possessing the solution.
