Gabriel Martinelli’s celebration backfires and goes viral as Arsenal collapse late in Wolves draw

Gabriel Martinelli opted to taunt the Wolves fans at Molineux by holding up a 2-1 scoreline, only for Arsenal to concede an equaliser moments later.

Arsenal’s control of the Premier League title race has all but vanished, as the Gunners did the unthinkable and dropped points against bottom-of-the-league Wolves.

It was the fifth occasion in the last seven games that points have been dropped, as like clockwork, Arsenal are inviting Manchester City into a title race that could’ve been all but wrapped up weeks ago.

The mentality of the Arsenal has been questioned after the late equaliser at Molineux was conceded, with Gabriel Martinelli earning more backlash than anyone else right now.

Gabriel Martinelli taunted Wolves fans before Arsenal conceded the equaliser

If Martinelli’s performance against Wolves wasn’t disappointing enough, then his decision to mock the home supporters at Molineux certainly was.

The Brazilian took a moment out of the game to joke with the Wolves fans, displaying a 2-1 scoreline with his hands.

Ultimately, he celebrated far too early as the Old Gold got the last laugh.

Taunting fans of a club in 20th place before the game was won showed just how weak the Arsenal squad were at Molineux.

When pressure is already mounting in the title race, the last thing the Gunners needed was for players to lose focus, and Martinelli did exactly that, embarrassing himself in the process.

Gabriel Martinelli wanted his Theo Walcott moment, and it backfired tremendously

We’ve seen an Arsenal player use scoreline hand gestures to mock opponents before.

Theo Walcott’s 2-0 taunt to Tottenham fans made him a hero in N5 and a villain in N17, but he was excused, because he was being showered by coins when being stretchered off in front of the away end in the 84th minute.

Arsenal had a hold of the game that day, which is why Martinelli’s attempt to replicate Walcott’s taunt was so petulant.

The Gunners were holding on against 20th-place Wolves after going 2-0 up, the game was far from won, and then it wasn’t won.

Martinelli has gone viral as a result, and on this occasion, the player needs to sit in humiliation and reflect.
