Arsenal fans did not appreciate Gary Neville sharing his concern about outside noise distracting the Gunners’ charge for the Premier League title, with supporters finding considerable irony in the statement.

Neville has been talking about his worries about Arsenal for some time, and after the Gunners beat Chelsea, the narrative was back.

Speaking to Sky Sports after watching Mikel Arteta’s side win the London derby 2-1 to extend their lead at the top of the table to five points, Neville deemed it necessary to air his concerns.

When referencing a Premier League title he won 30 years ago, the Manchester United icon reminisced on the pressure outside noise brings.

“I have to say that the first title that I won was 1995/96, and it was a challenging experience; your legs start to get heavy towards the end, and you start to read every headline. You can’t escape it; the noise is constant.”

His analogy then turned to experience and then to Manchester City’s threat, only to conclude by saying Arsenal will probably win the title after all.

It was a frantic post-match title-race assessment to make, and it didn’t land well with Arsenal fans.

Arsenal fans fume at Gary Neville’s Premier League title race concerns

On X, Gooners far and wide reacted to the clip and all had the same takeaway, emphasising the ‘outside noise’ comment.

Arsenal fans couldn’t help but see the irony of Neville’s words.

Other fans joked that Neville is right, and that the Arsenal squad and fans should just block out the outside noise, including the pundit’s own words.

“He’s got a point. Shut out the outside noise, including those from Neville and keep your eyes on the goal.”

Another agreed, “Basically just telling people not to listen to him and the rubbish he says.”

One fed-up X user simply requested that Neville leaves Arsenal alone, crediting the pundit as one of those who applies pressure to the squad.

“The Outside noise started by you guys? Please leave us alone man, It’s not the first time Arsenal will be winning or challenging for the PL, but every day the media create fake scenarios that ain’t there so they can run a story.”

Fans are fed up, and rightly so, as it’s the same narrative week after week if Arsenal win, lose or draw.

It only gives Arsenal additional motivation to get the task over the line to quieten the noise, but granted, it won’t be easy.
