One of Arsenal’s loanees had a tremendously tough outing on his competitive debut for his new club.
Six players left Arsenal on deadline day of the summer transfer window, five of whom departed on loan.
While Oleksandr Zinchenko and Reiss Nelson are still waiting for their debuts for Nottingham Forest and Brentford, respectively, Jakub Kiwior and Fabio Vieira have had a taste of action.
Kiwior impressed on his FC Porto debut, but it was a disappointing first outing for Vieira, who made his first Bundesliga appearance for Hamburg against none other than Bayern Munich.

Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane make Fabio Vieira suffer on his Bundesliga debut
Vieira wasn’t the only player to sign for Hamburg on deadline day, as Albert Sambi Lokonga left Arsenal permanently.
The Belgian midfielder didn’t come off the bench at the Allianz, and will be thankful that he didn’t, as Hamburg were thrashed by Bayern Munich.
Vieira started and lasted 76 minutes, but it only took the hosts three minutes to take the lead, with former Hale End star Serge Gnabry opening the scoring.
Harry Kane loved to hurt Arsenal when he was at Tottenham, and Vieira experienced the wrath of the England captain in the Bundesliga, as the striker netted a brace.
The game ended in a 5-0 win to Munich, with Hamburg left in tatters, making the Arsenal loanee’s low match rating unsurprising.
German outlet Norddeutscher Rundfunk passed comment on Vieira’s performance, saying that he ‘failed to make an impact’.
Fabio Vieira’s stats against Bayern Munich
Vieira and the majority of the Hamburg squad failed to make an impact, but that doesn’t mean to say that the Arsenal loan player didn’t try.
Fabio Vieira vs Bayern Munich
76 minutes
31 touches
85% pass completion
2 key passes
1/4 crosses completed
1/2 long balls completed
1 shot
1 duel win
8x possession lost
As seen by his match statistics, Vieira created two chances for his team and even managed to fire a shot on goal, an attempt that was blocked.
The Portuguese playmaker did what he could to influence in the final third, but on this occasion, Bayern Munich were simply too strong.
It’s back to the drawing board for Hamburg, who have the option to sign Vieira permanently next summer.
