Arsenal went behind early against Bournemouth, but Declan Rice acknowledged the man who delivered in a major way.

After conceding just 10 minutes into the game against Bournemouth, the Gunners found themselves on the back foot.

An errant roll from Gabriel allowed Evanilson to put the Cherries ahead, and the oft-composed Brazilian centre back looked rattled by the mistake.

However, he would make up for his mistake just six minutes later, finding the back of the net after a brilliant run from Madueke.

Name your Arsenal Man of the Match vs Bournemouth but you can’t pick Declan Rice!

Declan Rice applauds Gabriel for making up for costly mistake

Declan Rice spoke after Arsenal’s massive win over Bournemouth. The midfielder made it clear that it was as difficult a fixture as they expected, and the priority was to walk away with three points.

In particular, it was Gabriel’s ability to make up for his early mistake with a stellar performance that resonated with Rice.

“We knew it was always going to be really tough. To pick up the three points and the way we did it was really important.

“It showed the character of Gabriel to make the mistake and then how he played for the rest of the game; it showed the mentality of the team. Key thing was three points, and we are building momentum.”

It wasn’t just his equalizer that made up for Gabriel’s mistake – rather, it was his composure on the defensive end for the remainder of the game that allowed him to redeem himself.

Gabriel’s performance allows him to not harp on mistakes

A mistake like the one Gabriel made can be catastrophic for the confidence of any defender. Had he not made up for the mistake and gotten the win, the moment would have registered deeply with the Brazilian.

However, because he was able to net a goal on the other end and hold Bournemouth’s forwards away from the goal for nearly the remainder of the game, his confidence might still be intact.

It would be in Gabriel’s best interest going forward to not focus too much on this mistake, as it could lead to more costly errors during this pivotal and grueling stretch of the season.

Gabriel’s goal-scoring form could lead to Premier League history, so the Brazilian center back should take the positives from this game and not harp on the negatives.
