Arsenal’s squad depth is just ridiculously good now after Jurrien Timber was the player to replace the injured Cristhian Mosquera.

The North London club still managed to get the job done against Brentford on Wednesday, with Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka getting their names on the scoresheet.

The Gunners have had their fair share of injuries this season; however, their array of options has meant that they are yet to see a dip in performance levels.

Mikel Arteta made four changes from the team which drew away at Stamford Bridge on the weekend, including leaving out the likes of Eberechi Eze and Saka.

Jurrien Timber replacing Cristhian Mosquera proves Arsenal’s incredible squad depth

The fact that Arsenal were able to withdraw Cristhian Mosquera and replace him with Jurrien Timber demonstrates their incredible squad depth.

Having the Dutch defender as a fifth-choice centre-back option is just ridiculous, considering he would start for the majority of teams in Europe.

Arsenal are already without Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba, arguably Europe’s best two centre-backs, with Piero Hincapie and Mosquera being the duo to step up.

Fortunately, Mosquera looks to have avoided a serious injury, but he is now likely to miss their trip to Villa Park on the weekend.

But again, Arsenal are well equipped, with Timber set to partner Hincapie and the brilliant Ben White keeping his spot at right-back.

White made just his second Premier League appearance of the season, and reminded Arteta why he should still be a key part of his plans.

Arteta could even bring Myles Lewis-Skelly in at left-back, move Riccardo Calafiori into central defence, and keep Timber playing at right-back.

But all these options just highlight how strong Arsenal’s squad depth has become and why they are more than capable of lasting the distance in the Premier League.

Arsenal have a Declan Rice issue

However, the one area in which the Gunners are light is in midfield, with Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice the two outfielders with the most minutes.

Rice was forced off with an injury scare against Brentford, and it just highlights how hard he has been made to work over recent weeks.

Progressive carries – 2.76Top 6%

Arsenal are confident Rice will be fit to face Aston Villa on the weekend, but it’s tough to see how they replace him were he to suffer a long-term issue.

It’s clear that Arteta does not trust Christian Norgaard; therefore, Eze is the Gunners’ only real option to replace him against Villa should he need a rest.
