Martin Odegaard captained Arsenal to a magnificent 5-1 Champions League victory over Sporting CP on Tuesday evening.
The Gunners ran rampant in Portugal, as Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Magalhaes, Bukayo Saka, and Leandro Trossard all got on the scoresheet.
However, Martin Odegaard was the true star of the show for Arsenal at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.
Particularly in the first half, as Arsenal dominated possession and territory, the entire game seemed to flow through the Norwegian playmaker. Odegaard pulled all the strings, tormenting the Sporting defence and creating space for his teammates to exploit.

Arsenal fans realise Odegaard is the team’s most important player, and he underlined his status in that regard on Tuesday evening.
Arsenal supporters on X could only applaud as the 25-year-old produced a Champions League masterclass.
One said: “I can’t place a price tag on Odegaard right now, he’s exceptional and out of this world. He’s not just a system player at Arsenal, he’s the SYSTEM.”
Another stated: “I have no more words for praising Saka and Odegaard, they are just too stupidly, insanely so so goooodddddd.”
One fan claimed: “Odegaard is critical to this team and hope it rubs off on Nwaneri. He can take so much from Odegaard and what a player to learn from. Special player and an absolute bargain steal from Madrid. Hopefully we can keep him fit now and build momentum.”

Odegaard enjoys a hugely effective connection with Saka. The pair dovetail beautifully together, regularly combining to tear opposition defences apart. The likes of Martinelli and Havertz also benefit from the midfielder’s guile and creativity.
Odegaard also keeps standards high at Arsenal behind the scenes. As captain he leads by example, and enforces rules to maintain squad harmony.
