Max Dowman got an opportunity when Arsenal faced Port Vale in the Carabao Cup.
It was always going to be a tricky game for the Gunners, but Mikel Arteta’s men dominated large parts of the clash and deservedly won it.
Eberechi Eze opened the scoring with a composed finish early in the first half, and substitute Leandro Trossard doubled the lead late in the game to send Arsenal through to the next round.
Dowman came on in the second half, but what he was seen doing before the game even kicked off was really interesting.
What Max Dowman was doing during Arsenal’s warm-up before Port Vale clash
Arteta made nine changes to his Arsenal side for the game against Port Vale on Wednesday.
Only Mikel Merino and William Saliba survived from the draw against Manchester City, with the former starting as a centre-forward.
Max Dowman was named on the bench, and every Arsenal fan expected to see him come on at some point.
Before that, however, the teenager was asked to do something really interesting when the players were warming up.
Simon Collings of The Standard has revealed that the starting XI warmed up separately from the substitutes before the game.
However, Dowman, who was not in the starting line-up, was made to work with the starters, which is quite unique as all the other substitutes warmed up separately.
Max Dowman broke another record during Port Vale vs Arsenal
Dowman has been breaking all sorts of records at Arsenal in recent months.
Just last week, during a U21s game, Dowman became the club’s youngest-ever scorer in the Premier League 2, beating Reiss Nelson’s record.
On Wednesday, Dowman became the youngest Arsenal player to ever feature in the Carabao Cup.
The 15-year-old looked very good when he came on and should’ve even picked up an assist. However, his brilliant ball to Viktor Gyokeres could not be finished by the Swede.
It will now be interesting to see if Dowman will be in the squad for the game against Newcastle United. He impressed against the Toon in pre-season.
