Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was a disappointed man after his side lost to Aston Villa.

The Gunners weren’t great at all in the Midlands and were deservedly beaten. Almost every player was below par, which is very rare to see from this side.

One player who was brilliant was Leandro Trossard, and he is now a part of a unique statistic.

Mikel Arteta’s double Leandro Trossard substitution is just the third in Arsenal’s Premier League history

Trossard started the game as a substitute when Arsenal faced Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Belgium international missed the London derbies against Chelsea and Brentford due to an injury he picked up during the win against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta brought Trossard on at half-time, and just seven minutes later, he scored a goal to level the game.

However, in the 86th minute, the former Brighton and Hove Albion star was substituted again and was replaced by Eberechi Eze.

Arteta revealed that Trossard could only play a fixed amount of minutes and also that he was starting to feel his injury again. That was why he was withdrawn.

That substitution by Arteta is only the third time in the history of the Premier League that the Gunners have brought a player on, seen him score and then taken him off.

The last time that happened was nearly 12 years ago, in January 2014, when Nicklas Bendtner came on against Cardiff City, scored a goal, and was then replaced.

The only other time that has occurred at Arsenal was in 2009. Cesc Fabregas was the player involved then.

Is Leandro Trossard Arsenal’s best attacker right now? If not, who is?

Leandro Trossard has proved many people wrong at Arsenal

In the summer, several people urged Arteta to sell Trossard.

The Belgian was not viewed as an important player by many, but the Arsenal manager was having none of that. He personally blocked his exit.

Arteta’s decision to keep Trossard has proved to be a masterstroke as the 30-year-old has been magnificent for the Gunners this season.

Having directly contributed to 11 goals already this term, six of which have come in the last six games, Trossard may just be Arsenal’s most underrated player right now.

Hopefully, he isn’t injured again and will be fine for Arsenal’s upcoming games against Genk and Wolves.
