Mikel Arteta has revealed that Declan Rice will need to be assessed after the Arsenal midfielder went off injured against Chelsea.
The midfielder looked in some discomfort after chasing back to stop a Pedro Neto counterattack and was withdrawn after 76 minutes.
TRUE or FALSE: Declan Rice is the one player Arsenal CANNOT AFFORD to lose to injury…
The 26-year-old has played so much football this season, and he has looked rather fatigued over recent weeks, which is only natural.
Now, the Gunners will be left sweating over the fitness of their star player, and will be hoping his injury is nothing serious.
Mikel Arteta says Declan Rice’s injury will be assessed
Mikel Arteta has explained that Declan Rice’s injury will need to be assessed in the coming days after he was forced off with a minor issue.
The Gunners will want to find out about Rice’s situation quickly as they travel away to Brighton on Wednesday evening.
Currently, the Arsenal boss is unsure whether the midfielder will be fit for the match and revealed that he asked to come off.
Speaking after the game, when asked about injuries, Arteta told the media: “Declan asked to be substituted, so we’re going to have to get checked and see if he’s available for Wednesday.”
Rice delivered one of the key moments in the match as his corner was turned home by Jurrien Timber for the goal, which proved to be the winner.
Rice and Martin Zubimendi have looked shattered over recent weeks, so it’s no real surprise to see him struggle with a small issue.
TRUE or FALSE: Arsenal MUST upgrade on Martin Zubimendi this summer?
Christian Norgaard needs to come into the team, and Arteta should consider playing with two attacking midfielders, like against Wigan.
But with Rice being forced off with an injury scare, Arteta needs to take at least one of his midfield duo out of the team before he loses them for an extended period.
