Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta often comes across as a serious person, but he definitely has a funny side.

Players and staff are often spotted laughing uncontrollably around the Gunners boss, while the Spaniard regularly leaves reporters giggling in press conferences as well.

On Saturday, after Arsenal picked up a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sunderland in the Premier League, Arteta was asked a question about open play and set-piece goals.

The 43-year-old’s response was absolutely hilarious.

Arsenal fans can’t stop laughing at Mikel Arteta’s comment after Arsenal beat Sunderland

Arsenal’s three goals against Sunderland – one from Martin Zubimendi and two from Viktor Gyokeres – all came from open play.

That dents the silly narrative that the Gunners are ‘Set-Piece FC’, which has always been a ludicrous statement considering how good they are in all phases of play.

Arteta was quizzed about that by BBC Sport after the game on Saturday, and his response is pure gold.

“I’m upset that we didn’t score from a set-piece. Very upset,” the Gunners manager said sarcastically, before showing an even more sarcastic smile.

Arsenal fans cannot stop laughing at Arteta’s response.

One supporter tweeted: “That smile hahahaha. My manager!”

Another wrote: “The fake smile at the end loooooool. Last week’s official would’ve sent him off for that.”

“I love this man hahaaha,” posted another with multiple laughing emojis.

Set-piece criticism from rivals will not hurt Arsenal fans

The amount of mockery directed at Arsenal because they are good at set-pieces has been crazy.

Even the big-name pundits have looked down on the Gunners for their ability instead of praising them for being better than everyone else.

Usually, such criticism would cause a defensive reaction from Arsenal supporters, but they are all embracing it this time.

Gooners know that being good at set-pieces is a positive, and they absolutely love it. What makes it even better is seeing rivals hate it.

That is why ‘Set piece again, ole ole’ is heard at the Emirates Stadium and in away fixtures every time Arsenal find the back of the net from a corner or a free-kick.
