Arsenal beat West Ham United 2-0, but Viktor Gyokeres failed to score again.

The Sweden international joined the Gunners from Sporting CP in the summer, and he has been viewed as the solution to Arsenal’s goalscoring woes.

Gyokeres started well, scoring three times in his first four Premier League games. But he hasn’t found the net for the North Londoners since.

Mikel Arteta, however, is not worried.

What Mikel Arteta told Viktor Gyokeres right after Arsenal beat West Ham 2-0

Viktor Gyokeres may not have scored a goal for Arsenal for a few weeks, but nobody can complain about his performances.

The 27-year-old works tirelessly every game, and his battles with opposition defenders make life easier for his fellow Arsenal attackers

Against West Ham on Saturday, Gyokeres didn’t really get a concrete opportunity to score, but he never stopped trying.

That is what caught Arteta’s eye, and the Arsenal manager ran onto the pitch to thank his striker after the game for giving it his all.

Speaking to Harry Symeou, Arteta said: “I just went there and hugged him and said ‘thank you’ because the work that he does is unbelievable for the team. The way he stretches the back four and the spaces he opens…

“I mean, today, how he hasn’t scored a goal, I don’t know!”

Will Viktor Gyokeres score goals for Arsenal?

There has been a fair bit of criticism directed towards Gyokeres recently.

The Swede’s lack of goals since his strike against Leeds is being heavily discussed, and some, like Jermaine Jenas, think Gyokeres’ technique is poor.

However, the way Gyokeres occupies two central defenders every game offers space to the wide players, and that gives them more chances to succeed.

Furthermore, Gyokeres hasn’t really missed clear-cut chances. He has barely had opportunities to score in recent games, and that will change soon.

Once that happens, we are convinced that the Swede will score plenty of goals for the Gunners.
