Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta shared an update on the fitness of Riccardo Calafiori and Martin Odegaard ahead of the Gunners’ Premier League match against Wolves.

Arsenal return to action in the Premier League and desperately need to win, having dropped far too many points in recent fixtures.

The nine points dropped in the previous six league matches have allowed Manchester City to look strong in the Premier League title race, with the gap at the top now just four points.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s visit to Molineux on Wednesday night, Arteta shared an update on the fitness of Martin Odegaard.

Odegaard has been ruled out of the clash against Wolves, but Arteta is ‘very hopeful’ that he will be fit for the North London Derby.

The Arsenal manager also mentioned Riccardo Calafiori’s injury status after the Italian withdrew from the warm-up ahead of the FA Cup victory over Wigan.

“He’s fine. He trained with us today. Hopefully he’s fit for tomorrow.”

Martin Odegaard’s record against Wolves would’ve been on Mikel Arteta’s mind

Eberechi Eze impressed against Wigan last time out, but when it comes to Wolves, Arteta would’ve wished that he had Odegaard.

That’s because, when it comes to facing Wolves in an Arsenal shirt, there are few better than Odegaard, who has a 100% win rate against the West Midlands clubs in eight appearances.

The Arsenal captain will be missed, as he’s also scored four goals in that time.

If there’s one game Odegaard would’ve loved to return in, it’s against Wolves, as, besides Arsenal’s need to win, the Norwegian needed to step up his form.
