The Emirates Stadium was packed for the visit of Shakhtar Donetsk in Tuesday night’s Champions League encounter.

Mikel Arteta’s side will be aiming to go far in Europe’s elite club competition this season, and that means that Arsenal must negotiate this initial league phase of the competition smoothly.

In order to do so, the Gunners must take care of their home fixtures, and they were roared along by the Emirates Stadium crowd from the off tonight.

This fixture was also a big night for Shakhtar Donetsk, who will feel as though they are representing the entire nation of Ukraine, which has endured such a difficult time in recent years.

Given the importance of this game to Ukrainians, there were some famous faces from that country in attendance at the Emirates Stadium.

Mykhailo Mudryk present at Arsenal vs Shakhtar Donetsk

Ukrainian icon Andriy Shevchenko was present in North London, whilst Mykhailo Mudryk was also spotted within the crowd.

The Chelsea winger did not have far to travel to show support for Shakhtar, but had things turned out differently for him he might well have been participating in this clash as an Arsenal player.

Arsenal tried to sign Mudryk before Chelsea hijacked the Gunners’ move for the 23-year-old. Arteta is known to be a keen admirer of the attacker

Should Arsenal consider Mudryk again?

Mudryk has fallen short of expectations since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

In 66 appearances for the Blues, across all competitions, he has managed just 7 goals and has fallen down the pecking order in West London.

It has been suggested that Arsenal might reignite their interest in Mudryk, offering him a way out of Chelsea if the capital city outfit are willing to let him join a direct rival.

However, there is an argument that Arteta ought to have now seen enough of the winger in English football to put him off trying to sign him. There would certainly be huge doubts about Mudryk if he were to be brought to Arsenal now, and there would be enormous pressure on him to turn his form around and deliver.
