Noni Madueke was the star of the show as Arsenal beat Leeds United 4-0.

The England international was originally named on the bench, but Bukayo Saka suffered an injury during warm-up and couldn’t continue.

Mikel Arteta replaced his number seven with Madueke, and the former Chelsea man repaid his manager’s faith with a fine performance.

However, there was one thing that happened during the game that he was not happy with.

Noni Madueke thinks the Premier League made a mistake during Leeds vs Arsenal

Madueke produced one of his best performances for Arsenal against Leeds United.

The Englishman delivered a fantastic cross to Martin Zubimendi, who headed home the opener. Then, just eight minutes before the break, the winger was involved again.

Madueke curled in a dangerous corner that was on its way into the back of the net. Leeds keeper Karl Darlow got in the way, but his attempt to punch it away failed, and he conceded a goal.

The Premier League Goal Accreditation Panel watched the replays and decided that it was a Darlow own goal, but Madueke thinks that’s a mistake.

The Arsenal number 20 feels that since the ball was headed in, the goalkeeper’s touch is irrelevant. That is why he wants the goal credited to his name.

Madueke told BBC Sport: “How can that be an own goal? It was going on target. If the keeper is not in the goal, it goes in. I don’t understand how that’s an own goal!

“So, Premier League, please take a look at that and fix it for me!”

Noni Madueke needs to do what Gabriel Magalhaes did to get his Arsenal goal

Madueke is yet to score a goal for Arsenal in the Premier League, and you can see that he is desperate to get off the mark.

The 23-year-old’s reasoning is right. Since the ball was going in anyway, the goal should be awarded to him, but the Premier League have officially called it a Darlow own goal.

That is a shame for Madueke, but there’s still something he can do.

Back in January 2024, Gabriel Magalhaes was involved in a similar situation. He headed the ball goalwards after a corner from Bukayo Saka, but it hit Crystal Palace keeper Dean Henderson before going in.

That was originally given as an own goal too, but Gabriel appealed the decision, and the Premier League Goal Accreditation Panel gave him his goal.

Madueke needs to do the same to get off the mark in the Premier League.
