Pundit thinks Arsenal fans might be secretly ‘concerned’ after Fulham win

Pundit Robbie Mustoe has questioned how Arsenal fans might be feeling after the Premier League win over Fulham.

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to three points with a 1-0 win over Fulham.

The Gunners ended their winless run at Craven Cottage as Leandro Trossard scored the decisive goal from a corner.

It was yet another game won by Arsenal’s strength from set play, which inspired Robbie Mustoe to debate whether the nature of the victory was celebratory or a cause for concern.

Robbie Mustoe wonders if Arsenal fans are concerned about set-piece goals 

Despite the game coming down to Trossard’s goal, Arsenal did threaten Fulham in the fixture.

Bukayo Saka was absolutely unplayable at Craven Cottage and caused all sorts of problems, but once again, Arsenal’s reliance on set-piece goals is the overriding narrative.

Speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast, Mustoe questioned whether Arsenal fans might be growing concerned at how many set-piece goals are being scored.

“The set piece does it again. Should Arsenal fans be concerned again?” Mustoe asked.

“Set pieces are great, and it’s great to be good at set pieces, but should they be getting more chances from open play? And why didn’t they create more?”

Arsenal have scored so many goals from corners since the 2022/23 season, but the narrative of such being a cause for concern is rather strange.

The talking point expels other areas of Arsenal’s game that are strong, defensively in particular, and even so, the ability to score from set-play should by no means be demonised.

Mustoe questioned what Arsenal fans might be thinking of the amount of set-play goals being scored, but what supporters are really focusing on is being three points clear, having conceded just three goals all season.

What’s happening in attack isn’t a cause for concern, despite how much the subject of corners is being spoken about. 

So, how many of Arsenal’s goals this season in the Premier League have been from corners? The answer is 46%. 

The Gunners netted their seventh goal from a corner routine against Fulham, which does account for a large chunk of the 15 goals that’ve been scored this term.

That doesn’t, however, mean that chances aren’t being created, as at Craven Cottage, Arsenal fired 16 shots on Bernd Leno’s goal.

The match-winner was a corner, and that was the focus point, but with another three points in the bag, it’s unlikely that those at Colney will be concerned.
